Wild Ginger : Asarum caudatum
$6.00 - $12.00
Plant type: evergreen groundcover
Height: 6" - 10"
Light: full shade
Soil: moist
Growth rate: slow
PPL: YES
Native to rich, moist PNW forests; loves it shady and damp.mHeart-shaped leaf, shiny and variably sized.
Intimidatingly beautiful, understated groundflower - deep maroon and somewhat spidery.
Unlike tropical ginger, much of the flavor is in the stems and leaves rather than the rhizome/roots.
Wild ginger isn’t meant to be eaten whole. It’s most commonly used in tea, and the toxin is not particularly soluble in water. Just avoid eating the whole root. Combine it with vinegar or make an alcohol tincture and it should be just fine.
Slugs love it :(
