The prized portion of this native food is its sweet roots, which are sweet potato-y/ parsnipy tasting (lose their bitterness when steamed or roasted).

Likes moist ground and grows prolifically along our NW coastal waters and east of the Cascade Mountains. However, it is equally at home in open woods, hillsides and transition zones. Can be found in moist meadows, marsh edges, sandy beaches and dunes, from low to middle elevations.

A vigorous groundcover that can colonize a wetland-riparian zone.
